Local BDSM Classes and LEcture Series

The email exchange was in response to someone on a local BDSM list who had talked about a BDSM "rule."

-----------------------------

-----Original Message-----
From: DaveL
Sent: Oct 17, 2006 1:48 PM
To: XX
Subject: Fwd: Question ~ Where are we heading?

I never got a rule book. Did you get a rule book?

--
Dave

On Oct 17, 2006, at 2:04 PM, XX wrote:
OMFG, no Dave I did not.. but if you find it can get me a copy along with the "how to make your family grow in 3 easy steps"?

On Oct 17, 2006, at 2:15 PM, DaveL wrote:
Actually, you can find that one on the web next to "How to Make Your Garden Grow" (http://www.torontoplus.ca/feature/gardening/68/beginners_garden_grow.jsp). Although, I think that there are more than three easy steps. It might be a four or five step process. Don't forget that along with those lessons are:

* How to make a switch choose an actual position
* Bi just means halfway through the conversion process
* Poly: Synonym for Greedy?
* Gay kinky people: fact or myth

This is all part of our lecture series titled "The One True Way." Please see past lecture series on "Domly Dom Lessons for girly Men" and "Lower Case Writing for the Kink Scene."

--
Dave

Seriously Funny Playing

Someone recently said I was fucked up. When I asked why, they said it was because I had a scene where I hurt someone pretty badly, they made a silly face, and I laughed.

Hello, my name is Dave and I'm a sadist. I enjoy hurting people and occasionally find it funny. Why is it that finding it funny makes me fucked up? Is laughing in a dungeon fucked up? I'm sorry, this is kink and leather so we must be serious.

A friend came to FolsomFringe '06 from New York. He commented that the music played at the parties was very serious. It was a lot of NIN, Marilyn Manson, Depeche Mode, etc. This is in stark contrast to the music I heard at TESfest which included Love Shack by the B-52's and a song from Oklahoma: The Musical. Initially, I thought this music choice odd, but the more I think about it, the more I liked it.

Much of BDSM revolves around darkness. Sadism, restraint, humiliation, rape play, etc. It focuses around fear, sadness, and other dark emotions. On the other hand, what is more fucked up then playing with these dark emotions in a fun way? Years ago I watched "A Clockwork Orange" for a film scoring class. One of the scenes was a rape scene set to "Singing in the Rain." While I wasn't officially kinky at that point in my life, I remember thinking that while it was incredibly fucked up, it turned me on.

Why is laughter in a dungeon space a fucked up thing? Why should we not smile and laugh and have fun while playing? Its called "playing" for a reason. We do this for a reason. So lets have fun with it.

Observations

Things I have observed lately:

If you're going to make an argument, use spell check. Its been around for 20 years and makes you look a lot less stupid.

If you feel the need to show off just so you can look cool, it turns people off. They will realize that your goal is to look cool and ignore you nine times out of ten.

Do not waste your time making an argument to someone who is closed minded. You won't change their mind anyways so use that time to do something more productive.

Don't come to bed and expect to have a conversation that requires thought with your partner who was just recently sleeping. It rarely has a good result.

Good people are good people. I don't always agree with their decisions, but they are always good people.

When good people make decisions contrary to what I think should have been done, it does not mean that they are no longer good people.

Is this thing on?

Hello there.

As my good friend boymeat has linked to my journal, I should probably write something to entertain you all. Actually, its almost time for bed so I won't amuse you for long, but we all take what we can get.

I could start this by asking the cliche "Why am I on Live Journal?" Well, the answer is simple. Several of my friends are and if I want to see their magic journal entries I have to have an account. So there.

Actually, I've been looking for a place to espouse on my leather/queer/side. I tried just standing on a street corner and shouting, but I work in San Francisco and that is considered normal there. I don't know how often I'll write or if I'll write at all, but I guess time will tell.

And if I start expounding like I'm Mr. philosophy, feel free to smack me down in the comments section. I'll delete the comment, but please smack me down all you want.
